RULES FOR ELIGIBLE BOOKS/AUTHORS 

The proposed book must be written in one or more of the officially recognized languages in Rwanda (Kinyarwanda, English, French) 

• The proposed book must not go against the values of respect and tolerance. 
• The proposed book must demonstrate literary excellence.
• The proposed book must be professionally published.
• The nominated book must ideally have been published in the past year and up.
• Language (Kinyarwanda, English, and French).
• Writing types (Fiction, Non-Fiction, Autobiography, Essay, Poem).

CATEGORIES

1. Outstanding Female Rwandan Writer 
2. Outstanding Male Rwandan Writer
3. Outstanding Young Rwandan Writer (14 to 35 years old)
4. Outstanding African Writer (continental Africa)
5. Lifetime Achievement Award (Rwanda)

SUBMISSION CRITERIA 

Submission must agree to the conditions below: APPLICATION: All applicants must adhere to the required eligibility criteria mentioned above.

APPLICATION FORM: Fill out all required information on the application form. 

BOOK SUBMISSION: Books will be received in both physical (1 KG 504 St Gacuriro, Kigali, Rwanda) and digital formats (PDF) with your application.

Selection of Winners

A jury of five members will determine the winners of this year's award. They are five highly qualified literature, arts, and culture experts willing to look into your work and vote on it. 

Evaluation Criteria

The selection criterion is literary excellence. This is based on the following literary qualities:

Narrative Fluency

Style/Technique

Tone/Point of View

Perspective/Innovation

New Ideas/Research

Impact: emotional/intellectual resonance, relevance 

Contribution: how the work enriches the literary landscape in Rwanda

5 physical copies or 1  digital file required at submission 

Honorarium: 2-5 million Rwf
