Official Call for Submissions

To be considered for one of this year's winners, start by applying here and attaching your book for the prestigious Radiate Rwanda Literary Excellence Awards 2026.


Purpose:


To recognize exceptional books that educate, inform, inspire, challenge, and comfort  Rwandan and African readers all over the continent, with a focus on novels, autobiographies,  essays, and poetry that demonstrate literary excellence.  In 2026, we will once again honor Rwandan and African writers.


2026 Award Categories


The 2025 Awards recognized excellence across five distinguished categories, and the 2026 edition will maintain the same structure:


Lifetime Achievement Award (by Nomination ONLY)

Honoring an individual whose body of work has significantly contributed to literature and national/continental cultural development.

Outstanding Young Rwandan Writer

Recognizing exceptional promise, originality, and impact from an emerging Rwandan writer.

Outstanding Female Rwandan Writer

Celebrating literary excellence and contribution by a female Rwandan author.

Outstanding Male Rwandan Writer

Celebrating literary excellence and contribution by a male Rwandan author.

Outstanding African Writer

Honoring a distinguished writer from across the African continent whose work demonstrates outstanding literary merit and influence.


Eligibility & Criteria


Open to Rwandan and African writers, depending on the category.


Nominees must demonstrate literary excellence, originality, and cultural or intellectual impact.


Only published books, essays, poetry, or recognized literary contributions will be considered.


  •  The proposed book must not go against the values of respect and tolerance.
  •  Works must be published in Kinyawranda, English, or French between January 2020  and April 2026. 
  •  Authors must be Rwandans/Rwandan descendants and/or Africans of any African country.
  •  Eligible genres: Novel, Autobiography, Essay, and Poetry.
  •  The nominated book must be the latest book published by the author  
  • Writing style (Fiction, Non-Fiction, Autobiography, Essay, Poem) 
  •  The proposed book must be professionally published and should be available in bookshops.  

  

Evaluation Criteria:  


Each work will be assessed based on: 

  •  Literary merit: Originality, language, voice, style, narrative fluency,  
  •  Impact: Emotional/intellectual resonance, relevance  
  • Craft: Structure, pacing, character development, style/technique, tone/point of View,  perspective/innovation, new ideas/research 
  •  Contribution: How the work enriches the literary landscape of Rwanda and/or Africa  


For the Young Writer category, nominees must meet the age requirement at the time of submission ( aged 14–35).


Individuals may be nominated by institutions, publishers, literary organizations, themselves, or through approved submission channels.


Submission & Nomination Process:


APPLICATION: All applicants must adhere to the required eligibility criteria mentioned above.

APPLICATION FORM: Fill in all required information on the application form.  

BOOK SUBMISSION: Books will be received in both physical and digital formats (PDF). 


Author biography (maximum 200 words)

Bibliography or summary of literary contributions

Only professionally published books will be accepted.
